Army called in for relief and rescue in Madhya Pradesh

Bhopal: Large-scale flood relief and rescue arrangements have been made in Madhya Pradesh. Army has been called in. Two helicopters of Air Force are being deployed. Round-the-clock vigil is being maintained in all affected districts. Nine districts are affected by floods. Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan reviewed district-wise flood relief and rescue operations at a high-level emergency meeting here this morning. He directed that administration should gear up to deal with any situation. Last night, Shri Chouhan sought information about flood situation and rescue operations from collectors of affected districts.

Chief Minister Shri Chouhan directed that every possible effort should be ensured for safe evacuation of people from inundated villages along Narmada banks. He urged people to cooperate with administration and not to enter water flowing with rapid current. Administration is ensuring all necessary safety arrangements in all flood-affected villages. Chief Secretary Shri R. Parasuram and DGP Shri Nandan Dube were also present on the occasion.
It was informed that Komalwada, Sadhe Teen Gaon and Janwasa villages in Hoshangabad and Sehore districts are marooned. Air Force helicopters have been requisitioned to airlift people from there. Immediate action will be ensured as and when required. The Chief Minister directed that relief camps should be set up everywhere as per requirement and relief should be distributed to affected people. He directed to ensure round-the-clock operations in this hour of calamity. It was informed that Hoshangabad, Harda, Sehore, Raisen, Dewas, Khargone, Khandwa, Barwani and Alirajpur districts are affected by excessive rains. All big and small dams in these districts are full upto the brink. All gates of Bargi, Barna and Kolar dams have been opened. Water is flowing 18 feet above danger mark due to release of water from Tawa dam in Hoshangabad district. People are being rescued from marooned villages. Army has also been urged to help in rescue operations. Army teams are coming by motorboats from Sohagpur side. Home Guard’s 3000 personnel and 70 motorboats are operating in these districts. Excessive rains last night killed 12 people at Gadarwara in Narsinghpur district and 5 in Sagar district. Rs. one lakh each has been sanctioned to kin of deceased, Rs. 50 thousand each to seriously injured and Rs. 10 thousand each to other injured persons. Crops in about 6 thousand hectare in 50 villages have been affected. Two-day holiday has been declared in the schools of affected areas.
Shri Chouhan appealed to people not to cross rivers through wooden boats. They should also not run vehicles on inundated culverts. Additional Chief Secretary Home Shri I.S. Dani, DGP Home Guards Shri R.K. Shukla, Principal Secretary Narmada Valley Development Shri Rajneesh Vaish and Principal Secretary to CM Shri Manoj Shrivastava also attended the meeting.

After the meeting, Chief Minister Shri Chouhan undertook aerial an survey of flood-affected districts. He was accompanied by Chief Secretary Shri R. Parasuram and DGP Shri Nandan Dube during aerial survey.
