Anganwadi children learning to maintain hygiene

Bhopal: Activities in 78 thousand 929 Anganwadi centres and 12 thousand 70 sub-centres are being run for six hours daily for the benefit of beneficiaries. Children upto six years of age are being connected with cleanliness habits and pre-school education.

Except Sunday and other government holidays, activities start at Anganwadis from 9 am. As soon as an Anganwadi centre opens, children and parents are invited by beating of gong. During “Nirmal Samay” from 9 to 9.30 am children’s faces and hands are cleaned with soap and hair done. Then they are made to sit. They are also given personal counselling about sanitation and hygiene.

Prayers are held at 9.30 following which children are sit in a circular queue and served breakfast from 9.40 to 10 am. Both before and after breakfast, children are given tips about personal hygiene and washing hands and face. Non-formal education through toys is imparted from 10 am to 12 noon. Time from 12 noon to 1 pm is reserved for sports and lunch recess. Children are also given hygiene tips during recess also.

From 1 to 2 pm, Anganwadi workers visit home. They call on five beneficiaries daily, especially pregnant women and parents of malnourished and weak children. Records are maintained from 2 to 3 pm.
