Air India, BPCL Enter Obaidullah Gold Cup Finals

Bhopal  —  Continuing their winning trot, favourites Air India Sunday thrashed Punjab and Sind Bank 8-1 to enter the finals of the 64th All India Obaidullah Khan Gold Cup Hockey Tournament being played at the Aishbagh stadium in the state capital.

Cheered on by a home crowd, skipper Samir Dad scored two goals while Shivendra found the target thrice to ensure Air India’s presence in the tournament finals against BPCL, who trounced IOC 4-1 in the first semi final on Sunday.

While the two sides will clash for the title at 7pm on Monday, IOC and PSB will play off for the third place at 5pm.

Birendra Lakra with two goals and former India skipper Dhanraj Pillai with a superlative one goal cameo were the other scorers for Air India while Harbir Singh accounted for the consolation goal for PSB.

Shivendra’s three goal effort earned him the man of the match award.

In the earlier match, BPCL came from behind to outclass IOC and earn a well deserved place in the finals.

While Raghunath put IOC in the lead by converting a 4th minute penalty corner, Khandekar, Gurpreet, Karamjit and Ravi Pal Singh scored for BPCL.

Ravi Pal was adjudged the man of the match.
