Admn Needs Sensitiveness, Sense of Urgency to Check Maoism: Meghalaya Guv

Addressing a workshop on the topic ‘Maoist Violence’ at RCVP Noronha Academy of Administration, Meghalaya Governor Ranjit Shekhar Mooshahary has said there is a need to bring about sensitiveness and a sense of urgency in the administrative works to extend benefits of development schemes to the masses and solve their problems speedily so that people are not misguided and used by divisive forces, said an official release.

Mooshahary said that police forces need to be extra vigilant in tackling such divisive forces, said release.

Stressing that forces from other areas cannot tackle local problems as effectively as the local police, he said that state should increase police forces as per their requirements, release said.

Rajasthan Public Service Commission Chairperson Kumawat noted that the menace of Maoism is spreading fast in the country like AIDS and that nearly 20 states are now affected by it, said release.

He said that the central government has now recognised Maoism as one of the major problems and has undertaken measures to tackle it, release said.

Kumawat said that Maoists have not only grown in numbers but they also have sophisticated weapons now, said release.

He urged that while tackling Maoists, police forces should keep in mind the modus operandi used by the extremists in the past incidents.

Chhattisgarh ADGP Girdhari Nayak threw light in detail on Naxal activities there and Naxal Judum programme launched by the Chhattisgarh government to tackle the menace, release said.
