1300 piped water schemes restarted last year in Madhya Pradesh

Bhopal: The Public Health Engineering Department has restarted 1300 piped water schemes last year with a view to ensuring drinking water supply in rural areas of the state. The department has provisioned Rs. 47 crore 30 lakh for restarting defunct piped water schemes during current fiscal year.
Last year, the department restarted 900 such piped water schemes, which had become defunct due to sinking of groundwater level. New water sources were developed to restart the schemes. In all, 400 piped water schemes had been closed due to pending electricity bills. The department mobilised funds to restart these schemes. The department has also arranged training of Panchayat office-bearers to ensure constant drinking water supply during summer. At present, drinking water is being supplied through 10 thousand 154 piped water schemes. Last year, 820 new piped water schemes were also completed.
