Mulayam Seeks Support to Stall Women’s Reservation Bill

Describing Women’s Reservation Bill as a “conspiracy” against the leaders who made it to Lok Sabha through “hard struggle”, SP has opposed the bill which seeks to revolutionise the shape of Indian polity. The party has also warned UPA government of people’s movement if it goes ahead with it.

A few days ago, Sharad Yadav threatened to set him afire if the bill is passed in Lok Sabha.

Backing the Sharad Yadav who called for consensus on the bill, SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav said that passage of bill would amount to “poison by force” by the ruling class to those opposed to the legislation as was done to Greek philosopher Socrates.

Speaking during the debate on Motion of Thanks to the President’s address in the Lok Sabha, Yadav said that he is not against women participating in politics more than at the moment but the change should be achieved through consensus.

SP chief also attempted to reach out other parties like the BJP, JD(U), RJD and Left for support to halt the bill which seeks to provide 33% reservation for women in Lok Sabha and assemblies.

“The Bill is dangerous for the leadership of Lok Sabha… It is a conspiracy…It would finish the leadership,” Yadav said.

Elaborating, he said leaders like LK Advani, MM Joshi, Sharad Yadav and Lalu Prasad had not reached the present state in a day but through “hard struggles”.
