Double digit growth for second consecutive year, MP leads major states in growth rate

Bhopal: As per the statistics estimates of states released by the Central Statistics Organization (CSO) Madhya Pradesh leads major states of the country in respect of growth rate in year 2012-13. Madhya Pradesh’s agriculture growth rate for year 2012-13 is 14.28 percent and GSDP 10.02 percent. According to the experts this is quite a creditable achievement. Generally the growth rate nosedives in the following year of exceptionally high growth rate. Belying this thumb rule Madhya Pradesh has given quite an impressive account of itself. In a way Madhya Pradesh has witnessed one third increase in agricultural growth rate during last two years.

An important feature of these statistics is that this year Madhya Pradesh has occupied the top position in respect of GSDP by dislodging Bihar. Last year Bihar was on the top with 13.26 percent GSDP followed by Madhya Pradesh with 11.81 percent. As per the estimates of year 2012-13 Bihar’s GSDP has come down to 9.48 percent.
The state has registered continuous increase in per-capita income. This is despite the fact that one third population of Madhya Pradesh is made up of schedule caste and schedule tribes. During the current financial year the per-capita income of the state is estimated to be up by 8.69 percent.
Creditable achievements have been made in all sectors’ growth in Madhya Pradesh as a result of constant and committed efforts over last seven years. During the period, Madhya Pradesh’s Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) has risen by 96 percent while a massive increase of 284 percent has been registered in per capita income. Most importantly, the state has made rapid progress in all three sectors – agriculture, industry and service.
At constant rates, Madhya Pradesh’s GSDP in base year 2004-05 stood at Rs. one lakh 11 thousand 926 crore 89 lakh. According to advance estimates of Madhya Pradesh Economics & Statistics Department, this has increased to Rs. two lakh 21 thousand 462 crore 86 lakh in year 2012-13. As per a quick estimate, it was Rs. 2 lakh one thousand 898 crore 87 lakh in year 2011-12.
At constant rates, the Net GSDP stood at Rs. 99 thousand 940 crore one lakh in year 2004-05 while (as per advance estimates), it has risen to Rs. one lakh 96 thousand 253 crore 48 lakh in year 2012-13. This increase also amounts to 96.37 percent.
Spectacular success has been achieved in all three sectors of growth including agriculture, industry and service since year 2004-05. During the period under review, massive increase was registered in agriculture area and production. Total one crore 97 lakh 19 thousand 487 acre land was under agriculture during year 2004-05, which has increased to 2 crore 21 lakh 65 thousand 780 acres in year 2011-12. Similarly, agriculture production in the state stood at 2 crore 49 lakh 39 thousand 689 metric tonnes in year 2004-05, which has risen to 3 crore 2 lakh metric tonnes during year 2011-12.
Rapid expansion of irrigation resources played an important role in this unprecedented increase in agriculture production. Only 7 lakh hectare was under irrigation in year 2004-05, which has been increased to 21 lakh hectare in year 2011-12. Production of wheat, paddy, gram and mustard has specially increased. Madhya Pradesh has registered a record wheat production in year 2011-12. There are fair chances of the state making it to the top this year in this respect. In the state, 127 lakh metric tonnes of wheat was produced during year 2011-12.
Agriculture growth rate was 7.98 percent in year 2004-05. It rose to 18.91 percent during year 2011-12, which is highest in the country. Gross State Product at constant rates in primary sector (agriculture, animal husbandry, forestry, fish production) stood at Rs. 31 thousand 238 crore 30 lakh in 2004-05, which has increased to Rs. 53 thousand 503 crore 43 lakh during 2012-13 (Advance).
The secondary sector includes mineral production, industry, manufacturing, power, gas and water supply. GSDP in this sector was to the tune of Rs. 30 thousand 658 crore 6 lakh in year 2004-05. It has gone up to Rs. 61 thousand185 crore 30 lakh in 2012-13 (advance). Of these, mineral production has increased remarkably. Total mineral production was to the tune of Rs. 4 thousand 783 crore 71 in year 2004-05, which has increased to Rs. 10 thousand 659 crore 43 lakh in year 2011.
