Yeddy Claims Crisis Resolved; Reddys Say No

Beleaguered Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa has recently claimed that “everything has been resolved” between him and rebels in the state unit of BJP. However, the crisis is far from over if reports are anything to go by.

According to reports, rebels headed by mining magnate Gali Janardhana Reddy and Karunakara Reddy have turned down a compromise formula and are adamant on Yeddyurapp’s removal.

It should be noted that the compromise formula negotiated by the party’s central leadership in New Delhi provides for removal of Yeddyurappa’s trusted Rural Development Minister Shobha Karandlaje.

The party has made it clear to rebels that there would be no compromise on the Chief Minister’s post, that assembly Speaker Jagdish Shettar, who’s in race for Yeddyurappa’s post, would be inducted in the state cabinet and that three or four ministers may be dropped from the state cabinet.

Senior party leader L K Advani has asked Yeddyurappa to be more flexible and exhibit trust in others. The BJP will regularly review the state government’s functioning and may restructure the party’s state unit.

All this, nonetheless, has failed to bring peace to the state BJP and Tourism Minister Janardhana Reddy has rejected the compromise formula and still wants Yeddyurappa’s head.

Karnataka’s Tourism Minister Janardhana Reddy has gone to Hyderabad to consult the 52 Karnataka BJP MLAs, who support him and have sent their resignation letters to him.

“(There is) no change in my stand on the Karnataka CM. I don’t know where talk of compromise has come from,” said Reddy in Delhi before flying to Hyderabad.

Yeddyurappa, who is visiting the Vaishno Devi shrine in Jammu on Saturday before flying back home, said the party had “faith” in him. “Everything has been resolved….I am thankful to the party leadership for reposing faith in me. I will take everyone into confidence,” he said.

“The BJP government in Karnataka will complete its full term,” he said.
