Vehicles Stay off Roads as Tripura Strikes against Hike in Fuel Prices

Roads in Tripura bore a deserted look on Tuesday, as vehicles and drivers stayed off the roads during a 24-hour transport strike called in protest of the recent hike in petro prices, said reports.

According to reports attributing the inputs to local police officials, no untoward incident was reported during the state-wide strike called jointly by Tripura Motor Shramik Union (TMSU) and Tripura Auto-Rickshaw Workers Union (TAWU).

Declaring a holiday, most schools did not ply their buses on the day even as non-availabiklity of public transport took its toll on attendance in government offices.

The day-long strike was supported by the ruling CPI(M).
