Varun files Papers, Keeps the Event Low-Key

BJP candidate, Varun Gandhi, filed his nomination papers on Wednesday to fight the Lok Sabha elections from Pilibhit constituency. He is on a two week parole after being jailed for reportedly using indecent and hurtful language against Muslims in a public meet.

While filing his papers at the District Magistrate office, the 29-year-old new Hindutva poster-boy of the BJP was accompanied by his mother Maneka Gandhi.

Besides, a crowd of his supporters and newsmen were seen outside the office as he submitted his papers. The elections to the seat, in which Gandhi is contesting against his uncle and Congress leader PM Singh, are to be held on May 13.

Varun, who is making his election debut with this Lok Sabha elections, has kept the event low-key as the district administration refused permission for a procession of his supporters to accompany him while filing of nominations.

Following anti-Muslim hate speeches during campaign in Pilbhit, a controversy raged over his candidature and he was arrested under National Securities Act (NSA).
