US Has Agreed to Headley’s Interrogation by Indian Sleuths: Chidambaram

Following guilty plea by Pakistani-born American national David Coleman Headley, the US has agreed to allow Indian sleuths to quiz him, reported Zeenews.

After a telephonic conversation with US Attorney General Eric Holder, Union Home Minister P Chidambaram made this announcement, said report.

He said that India could now interrogate Headley through judicial proceedings, report said.

Besides, US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia Robert Blake confirmed his country’s stand, said report.

Blake, currently on a visit to Afghanistan and India, said that Indian sleuths would be permitted to quiz Headley, report said.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has registered a case against Headley and Tahawwur Rana for allegedly conspiring to wage a war against the country and under various sections of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

Report said quoting unnamed sources said that there were proof with the India regarding offences committed by Headley in the country.

If need be, the security agencies can register a fresh case and seek his extradition in case the punishment was much below the expected lines, a senior official said.
