UPA Govt Taps Phones of Pawar, Other Politicians: Outlook Magazine

Outlook magazine has claimed that the UPA government tapped the phone conversation of Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar to listen his talks with IPL Commissioner Lalit Modi.

Besides, it also tapped phones of senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and CPI-M general secretary Prakash Karat, magazine claimed.

According to magazine report, Pawar’s conversations with Modi were tapped last fortnight in the middle of the IPL controversy.

The magazine reported that the recorded conversations allegedly revealed inside details of the deals stuck in the bidding process for various IPL terms.

Government tapped Digvijay Singh’s phone in February 2007 when he was holding discussions with a Punjab Congress leader regarding candidates for Congress Working Committee elections.

As for Nitish Kumbar, his phone was tapped in October 2007 while he was in Delhi and talking to a colleague on how to get more funds from the centre, magazine reported.

Government recorded Karat’s phone in June 2008 to find out his party’s plans regarding the Indo-US nuclear deal.

The report says the UPA government is using new technologies to spy on cellphones, landlines lines and Internet telephony.
