Two Foreigners among Pune Dead, PM Calls for Speedy Investigation

Two foreign nationals are among the nine people killed in the ghastly bombing that rocked Pune’s German Bakery on Saturday evening, said media reports citing Commissioner of Police Satyapal Singh on Sunday.

According to Zee News, Singh told mediapersons that identities of all those killed in the bombing have been established. He confirmed that two foreign nationals figure on the list.

He said 60 people, including 12 foreign nationals were injured in the explosion.

The nine dead were identified as Ankik Dhar, (24, Kolkata), his sister Anandi Dhar (19, Kolkata), Shilpa Goenka (23, Kolkata), P Sundari (22, Bangalore), Vinita Gadani (22, Mumbai), Shankar Pansare (40, Pune), Nadia Macdrini (37, Italy), Gokul Nepali (an employee of German Bakery), Sayeed Abdul Khan (26, Iranian student in Pune), reported the Oneindia website.

He said there was no specific report of the incident and added that no arrests had, so far, been made in connection with the bombing, that marked the return of terror on Indian shores after a calm of over a year.

Singh also welcomed any useful information regarding this case, and provided two helpline numbers: 020-26126296, 020-26122880.

Refraining from naming any outfits suspected of the bombing, Singh said investigagtions were underway and that he was ‘confident’ that the case would soon be solved.

In New Delhi, reviewing the situation after the Pune bombing, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Sunday directed the union and Maharashtra governments to take coordinated and effective action to speedily investigate the matter, reported PTI citing a PMO spokesman.

Expressing his deepest condolences and sympathies to the families of all those killed and injured in the incident, Singh announced relief from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund of Rs two lakh to the next of kin of those killed in the attack and Rs one lakh to those injured, the report added.

The bombing has resulted in stepped up security measures across the country.
