Two British Nationals Held after ‘Suspicious’ Activities

Two British nationals suspected of indulging in ‘suspicious’ activities have been taken into custody by security agencies at a five star hotel near the IGI airport in New Delhi, said media reports citing police.

Stephen Hampston (46) and Steve Martin (55) were detained on Monday after officials of Raddison Hotel in south-west Delhi’s Mahipalpur grew suspicious about their activities, said reports.

“We detained them because of suspicious activities,” Delhi Police Commissioner Y S Dadwal was quoted as saying while talking to reporters.

Dadwal, nevertheless, declined to given any further detail about them, said reports.

Reports said that the duo, who were suspected to be tracking the movement of flights arriving and departing from the international airport, were allegedly in possession of powerful binoculars and other sophisticated equipment.

Investigators of Delhi Police’s Special Cell and Intelligence Bureau rushed to the spot and interrogated them, report said, adding that Police is also looking into an email reportedly sent by Hampston.

The two have been confined to the hotel, said reports citing Home Ministry sources.

Most of the agencies involved in the probe have cleared the software found in the their possession and the British High Commission has been informed about the detention, said reports.
