Traders Call off Stir amid Fresh Clashes in Srinagar: Reports
Six people were wounded as clashes broke out between angry youths, protesting the killing of a 17-year-old student allegedly in CRPF firing, and police in Srinagar on Sunday, say media reports.
Police fired teargas shells and used mild force to disperse stone-pelting youths at several places in the summer capital.
The protesters were demanding a probe into the killing of a student, Inayatullah Khan, who was critically injured allegedly in CRPF firing at Lal Chowk on Friday, succumbed to injuries a day later.
Clashes erupted at Gojwara, Bohrikadal, Kawdara, Maisuma, Gawkadal and other places and disrupted normal life, official sources said – reported PTI News Agency.
Youths also hurled stones at police and para-military forces at Dalgate, a tourist hub, as the city saw pitched battles for the fifth day in a row, it added.
Meanwhile, traders at Lal Chowk, the nerve centre of the city, called off a three-day-old stir and announced their return to normal business starting Monday.
The traders seeking the removal of a CRPF picket from the area, called off the agitation after authorities assured that their demands would be looked into sympathetically.
