Top Leaders Pay Homage to Indira Gandhi

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Saturday led the nation in paying homage to late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on the occasion of her 25th death anniversary at Shakti Sthal in the national capital.

Floral tributes were also paid on behalf of President Pratibha Devi Singh Patil, currently on foreign shores. Vice President Mohammad Hamid Ansari paid respects to the departed leader.

Congress president Sonia Gandhi and AICC General Secretary Rahul Gandhi also paid floral tributes to Indira Gandhi.

A prayer meeting, organised at the official residence of Indira Gandhi, was attended by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, members of Gandhi family among others.

In Bhopal, Congress state unit chief Suresh Pachouri and other party functionaries paid floral tributes to the late leader at her statue on the busy Sultania Road this morning.

Later in the day, Sonia Gandhi will present the 24th Indira Gandhi Award for National Integration for the year 2008 to noted journalist, writer and activist Balraj Puri at a ceremony in the national capital.

Indira Gandhi was assassinated by her guards on this day in 1984.
