TN on H1N1 Radar – Four-year-old Dies in Chennai

After Maharashtra and Gujarat, Tamil Nadu became the third state in the country to report a swine flu death after a four-year-old boy succumbed to the deadly H1N1 virus at a private hospital in Chennai on Monday.

The boy, who had tested positive for A (H1N1) virus, died of mulitple organ failure at atound 0835 hours this morning.

Three others who were in contact with the child, including his brother have tested positive for the virus, say officials in the state health department.

Later in the day, state Chief Secretary KS Sripathy is scheduled to hold a meeting of private hospitals in the state to review the current situation and advise them on protocol regarding identification and treatment of Swine Flu.

Also on Monday, Babasaheb Mane (53), an ayurvedic doctor by profession, died at Sasoon Hospital Pune.

Mane was the third swine flu death reported from the city.

The latest death in Tamil Nadu takes the H1N1 virus toll to six, of which four deaths were reported from Maharashtra while one was reported from Gujarat on Sunday.
