TKA Nair appointed as advisor in PMO

NEW DELHI: A new change in Prime Minister’s Office as the government announced the appointment of T. K. A. Nair, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, as an advisor on Thursday.

Senior bureaucrat Pulok Chatterjee, currently serving as an executive director in the World Bank in Washington, will replace him as Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister. The appointments will become effective from October 3.

Nair, a retired IAS officer of 1963 batch as advisor, will be given the rank and status of Minister of State in the PMO, but sources suggest that the implications of the rejig means a clear decline in his powers. The official release, incidentally, did not mention the responsibilities that Nair will be given of in the PMO.
