Three De-recognised Deemed Universities Students Go on Rampage

Students of three deemed universities in Tamil Nadu facing de-recognition went on rampage on Wednesday, reported NDTV.

Report said that students of Vel Tech University in Chennai, Prist University in Thanjavur and Vinayaka Missions’ University in Salem went on rampage, forcing police to resort to milt baton-charge on them.

The central government had decided to withdraw deemed university status to 44 universities in the country, alleging that these were being run as family fiefdoms rather than on academic considerations.

Nevertheless, HRD Minister Kapil Sibal yesterday assured that around two lakh students enrolled in these universities spread over 13 states would be allowed revert back as affiliated colleges of their original universities.
