Tharoor Meets Sonia

Amid demands of resignation over his controversial “cattle class” remarks, Union Minister for State for External Affairs Shashi Tharoor met UPA chairperson and Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday.

Back from an official visit to Liberia and Ghana, Tharoor met Sonia Gandhi soon after his return. The “cattle class” controversy broke out in India when he was on the trip.

At the end of his 20-minute meeting with Gandhi, Tharoor sped past without entertaining questions from waiting media persons.

Needless to add, his comment on his Twitter last week dubbing travel in economy class as “cattle class” had evoked strong rebuke from the AICC.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot had even demanded his resignation as Minister of State for External Affairs.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had downplayed the controversy saying Tharoor’s comment was a joke.
