Telangana Workers Take out Rally, Police Prevent them to Gherao Assembly

Demanding creation of separate Telangana state, thousands of students and Telangana Joint Action Committee (JAC) took out a massive rally on Saturday in Hyderabad in what could be called re-emergence of the crisis, reported CNN-IBN.

According to report, police stopped the rally from marching to the state Assembly following threats from Osmania University students that they would gherao the building.

Police have put up nearly 65 barricades around the Assembly virtually making it a fortress, report said.

“All the bona fide residents of the hostels have nothing to worry. Police officers have talked to the principals and wardens concerned. We have requested them not to let outsiders and suspicious elements to come and stay. We checked on our own too. We have certain information that certain organisations have been split into batches; we are trying to track them. In some areas they would try to hold demonstrations. Police is well equipped to handle the situation. Action will be taken against the trouble makers. Our arrangements are based on the inputs we have. We are sorry to the public for the inconvenience,” Hyderabad Police Commissioner AK Khan was quoted as saying.

Report said that no protestor was taken into preventive custody yet.

Agitators are opposing the terms of reference of the Justice Srikrishna committee that is looking after the demand of creating separate Telangana state.

A large number of security personnel have been deployed around the Assembly since the state Budget is to be presented on Saturday. Around 20,000 policemen have been deployed across the city, said report.

More than 20,000 security personnel have been deployed across the city, trying to quell the protests.
