Swami Nithyananda Granted Bail

Self-styled godman Swami Nityananda, who had been arrested on rape and other charges, has been granted bail by the Karnataka High Court, said media reports.

Granting the bail, the high court observed that the Karnataka police had not been able to gather adequate evidence to hold him in custody and that no witness had been produced in court in more than 50 years, reports said.

Nityananda will now have to furnish a bond of Rs 1 lakh, said reports.

Nityananda is facing criminal charges, including rape, after local TV channels aired purported video showing him in a compromising position with an actress.
