Supplier of Satphones to Terrorists Sajjad Sheikh Extradited to India

Sajjad Sheikh, the Dubai-based Indian national, who allegedly supplied satellite phones, wireless sets, explosives and detonators to terrorist groups has been extradited to India from the UAE and arrested by the Special Cell of Delhi Police, said media reports.

In his forties, Sheikh was arrested earlier this year and Indian and UAE agencies completed all formalities regarding his extradition last month.

He was flown to the Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi from Dubai on an Indian Airlines Flight, reports said.

“We picked him up from the airport itself. He is in custody and is being questioned about other agents in India and abroad who supply timers, detonators, wireless sets and Thuraya satellite phones to terror outfits,” English daily The Indian Express quoted sources as saying.

Sheikh is alleged to have been supplying for the last ten years satellite phones, wireless sets and explosives to terror outfits such as the Lashkar-e-Toiba, Harkat-ul-Mujahideen and Jaish-e-Mohammad, said reports.

He had allegedly sent 40 Thuraya satellite phones, dozens of wireless sets and explosives to Delhi in June 2005.

However, Customs and the Carrier detected the consignment, which was to be delivered to operatives of the Harkat-ul-Mujahideen in Jammu and Kashmir, and Mohammad Amin Khan was arrested.

Amin Khan was said to have told his interrogators that Sheikh had sent the consignment, and that it was to be taken to Srinagar.

The consignment, sent from Jeddah in Saudi Arabia, was recovered from the cargo complex of the IGI Airport on June 8, 2005.

Reports said that he also sent Thuraya phones to terror outfits in Pakistan and Bangladesh via the sea route,

It is alleged that Sheikh received payments via hawala in Dubai.
