State level convention of producer organisations at Ujjain to directly link farmers with market

Bhopal: State level farmer producer organisations will be held at Ujjain on May 29 to help farmers get fair prices of their produce and make agriculture profitable. The convention focuses on Krishi Mahotsav where Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan will directly interact with farmers.

Farmer producer organisations have been formed to directly link farmers’ produce with market and help them get fair prices. Apart from making available facilities to farmers as per their requirements, the organisations also helps them mobilize fiscal resources. As many as 64 farmer producer organisations are operating in 29 districts of the state. Madhya Bharat Consortium of Farmer Producer Company Limited has been constituted at non-government level to institutionalize these organisations. Recently, farmers had sent 320 tonne onion through it to Delhi, which has yielded encouraging results.

Formation of marginal farmer crop producers’ organisation was made first time in Madhya Pradesh under District Poverty Initiative Programme (DPIP). About 19 crop producer companies were formed in 14 districts under jurisdiction of DPIP members of which included companies’ shareholders, Board of Directors and marginal and poor farmers of villages.

Prominent among these societies were Samarth Crop Producer Company of Shajapur (Now Agar-Malwa district), Crop Producer Company of Khujner in Rajgarh district, Crop Producer Company of Shivpuri district and crop producer companies constituted in Guna and Rewa district. Most of the members of Sagar district’s Sagarshri Milk Production Company were women.

Mission teams under supervision of the World Bank, inspected activities of these companies on several occasions, lauded efforts of Madhya Pradesh DPIP and described it as best example of innovation.

Madhya Pradesh is the first state to form farmer producer organisation on a large scale under Company Ac. A 3-day mega convention of these organisations is being held at Ujjain from May 3. An exhibitions comprising 100 stalls will be organised on the occasion. Apart from display of advanced agricultural implements, experts will also hold direct dialogue with farmers on matters related to agriculture, horticulture and animal husbandry. Process will also be undertaken to form societies of farmers and issue them licences.

It is noteworthy that Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan had participated in a convention of farmer producer organisations at Bhopal where he had said that future of these bodies will be brightened and efforts will be made to ensure benefits to farmers.
