Srinagar Car Bombing Kills Four

A deadly car bombing killed three policemen and a woman and injured nearly a dozen other security personnel in the Jammu and Kashmir capital of Srinagar on Saturday. The bombing marks the return of violence to Srinagar after a relative quiet of around three years.

The bomb, an improvised explosive device concealed in a car, was triggered just as a police van belonging to Pulwama police carrying detainees was driving out of the city jail at around 1800 this evening.

The condition of at least five of the police personnel is said to be critical.

The woman was later identified as Khadija of Khwaja Yar Bal area, she was walking past the site when the explosion killed her on the spot.

According to media reports the Jamiat-ul-Mujahideen, a pro-Pakistan outfit, has claimed responsibility for the ghastly bombing.

the macabre bombing took place on a day when three districts of Kashmir valley observed a complete shutdown, in response to the call given by Majlis-e-Mushawarat, a non-political body fighting for justice for the victims of the rape and murder in Shopian.

Educational institutions, semi government establishments and business activities remained paralysed in Shopian and Pulwama in south Kashmir and Sopore in north Kashmir, due to the bandh, however, no violence was reported during the strike.
