Srikrishna Committee on Telangana to Meet Thursday

Before starting the process of consultation, Srikrishna Committee on Telangana will meet in New Delhi on Thursday to review work progress so far and to discuss responses received from various quarters on the creation of separate Telangana state, said media reports.

It’s third meeting of the five-member panel since its formation by the Centre last month. It even once met in Hyderabad.

Vinod K Duggal, member secretary of the committee, said that they received ‘overwhelming’ response on formation of Telangana from various quarters, including individuals and organizations, reports said.

“We have appointed some people just to read the responses. The response we have got is overwhelming…. we are happy (with the trend),” he was quoted as saying.

“We are planning to appoint some five to six dedicated people to see the responses and format them. We need dedicated people to sort out the overwhelming responses,” Duggal was quoted as saying.

Though many organizations had earlier threatened boycott of the committee, most of them changed their mind and sent their views to the panel.

The committee, which is scheduled to initiate its consultation with public in general and political parties, has announced that hearings will take place in Hyderabad and other parts of the state.

In response to a query about the agenda of Thursday’s meeting, Duggal said that it would review the process committee so far made on the matter in last one month, report said.

It may be mentioned that the committee had already started researching on various aspects like historical, constitutional, political, legal, economic, social and cultural to give its view on the separate statehood issue.
