SP Will Play Pivotal Role in Government Formation: Mulayam

Refusing to read the writing on the wall which, incidentally, is getting clearer by the day,  Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav claims that his Samajwadi Party will play a pivotal role in the formation of the new government on the other side of the Lok Sabha polls.

“Any government that is formed after the Lok Sabha elections will depend heavily on Samajwadi Party for its survival. We are going to emerge as a force to reckon with”, said Mulayam Singh at an election meeting a Kaudihar some 35 kms from Allahabad.

Mulayam Singh’s observation is in stark contrast to poll pundits who suggest that the SP may be headed for troubled times with his staunch Muslim supports opting away over his decision to induct former UP chief minister Kalyan Singh into the party.

Mulayam’s Muslim voters accuse Kalyan Singh, then UP chief minister, of complexity in the demolition of the Babri Masjid structure at Ayodhya in 1992.

Unmoved by the suggestions, the SP chief in response to questions put forth by newsmen after his address said: “after elections, I will discuss the matter with Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad and Lok Janshakti Party president Ram Vilas Paswan. A decision to extend support to any formation will be taken thereafter.”

In his speech Mulayam Singh slammed Mayawati-led BSP state government for banning student union elections in the state and her decision to dismiss scores of police personnel over alleged irregularities in the selection process.
