Somdev Makes it to US Open Main Draw
Marking his arrival in the big league, Indian lad Somdev Devvarman has earned himself a berth in the singles main draw of the US Open by scoring a convincing 6-3 6-2 win over Jerzy Janowicz of Poland.
Rain had held up the match while the Indian was leading 6-3 5-2 in the third round match on Friday at the Flushing Meadows.
Somdev finally completed his victory last night, setting up a first round clash against Portugal’s Fredrico Gil, currently 110 in the ATP rankings.
Speaking to the media after the win, an ecstatic Somdev said: “I am very happy and excited at having qualified for the main draw, but this is not where the hard work ends as I still have a long way to go.”
