Somali Pirates Abduct Eight Vessels with 120 Indians Aboard

Somali pirates have abducted eight boats – with 120 Indians aboard – and one of them has reportedly been traced near the Seychelles port after the Kenyan Navy established communication with the crew, reported ANI.

Also, the authorities are reportedly indicating to have spotted other vessels in Seychelles, said report.

The sailors, along with 120 Indians, were abducted by Somali pirates when they were sailing from Somalia to Duai, report said.

According to report, the sailors, who hail from Gujarat’s Saurashtra and Kutch regions, had moored last in the rebel territory of Kismayo in Somalia where they loaded cargo into their boats. But soon after, they were taken as hostages.

The pirates have not demanded any ransom so far, said report.

Many Indians ships were earlier also targeted by Somali pirates, who took crew as hostages.

There are reports that on account of the current hijacking, patrolling has been intensified following naval deployment in the Gulf of Aden and Seychelles.
