Soharabuddin Encounter Case Handed over to CBI

The Supreme Court has directed a CBI investigation into the 2005 Soharabuddin Sheikh encounter case, said reports.

A bench of the apex court comprising Justices Tarun Chatterjee and Aftab Alam accepted the petitioner’s demand for an investigation into the encounter, reported PTI.

Soharabuddin’s brother had moved the plea. Soharabuddin was allegedly killed in a fake encounter by the Gujarat police, said report.

The decision is a major blow to the BJP government in Gujarat, which has been consistently maintaining that it’s Special Investigation Team was conducting the probe in an impartial manner.
