Six Convicted in 1996 Lagpat Nagar Blast Case

Six persons belonging to a Kashmiri terrorist organization have been convicted by a Delhi court in the 1996 Dalit blast case, said media reports.

Court found all of them guilty of attempt to murder, reports said.

It may be mentioned that 13 people were killed and 39 others injured in the explosion that occurred on the evening of May 2, 1996 in Lajpat Nagar area of the national capital. Besides, 14 buildings were destroyed in the blast.

In connection with the case, ten people, all from Jammu and Kashmir, were taken into custody soon after the incidence.

Police arrested them on the ground of interceptions of the phone calls they allegedly made to various media houses, claiming responsibility for the terror attack.

The accused had been booked for various charges including criminal conspiracy and murder.

The defence counsels had argued that all 10 accused were falsely implicated by the police and were taken into custody before the blast.
