SIT Interrogates Three Lawyers in Gujarat Riots Case

In connection with 2002 Gujarat riots case, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) has interrogated three lawyers on complains registered against them by some victims, said media reports.

According to reports, SIT questioned advocates H N Dhruv, P L Gandhi and V P Atre on Saturday on complaint by some riot victims and social activist Teesta Setalvad.

Complainants alleged that the lawyers, who have close proximity with the government, were appointed as special public prosecutors in post-Godhra riot cases, said reports.

It may be mentioned that Dhruv was initially appointed as special public prosecutor in the Godhra train burning case, while Atre was made public prosecutor in the Naroda Patiya and Gulbarg case, while Gandhi was the chief government pleader in the Godhra sessions court in Panchmahal district.

The riots victis and Setalvad complained against the three to SIT after their names were suggested for appointment as public prosecutor in the special courts where the trial of the riot cases is being held, report said.
