Simon’s body reaches home to streaming tears

The body of Simon Paranthaman, an Indian chef killed in captivity by his kidnappers in Afghanistan, arrived at his hometown in Villupuram district of Tamil Nadu, where a long wait for Simon culminated in streaming tears for relatives and friends of the slain cook.

The 38 year old, Simon, was employed with an Italian food company that delivered food to Italian troops in Afghanistan before being abducted from the Herat province of Afghanistan last October.

His captors initially demanded a ransom of USD 150,000 for his release, his death was conveyed to the Indian embassy in Kabul on February 9.

Survived by his wife and two children, Simon’s body was flown into Chennai aboard an Indian flight from Kabul late on Thursday night.

His mortal remains were received at the airport by the deceased’s wife Vasanthi and brother Subramani, union minister for law and justice, K Venkatpathy, was present on the occasion.
