Sikhs Protests over Bad Treatment of Community by Taliban

Protesting against the treatment meted out to the Sikhs in tribal areas of Pakistan by Taliban militants, member of the community in Jammu on Sunday burnt effigies of the Taliban, Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani.

As many as 1,000 Sikh youths, led by Avtar Singh, president of Sikh Sangat Youth Wing, took out anti-Taliban rally shouting anti-Pakistan slogans in Diagiana ashram area of the Jammu city.

In thorough protestant mood, they also blocked the Jammu-Panthankote national highway for over three hours.

“We call upon the international community to intervene into the genocide of the Sikhs and Hindus in Pakistan’s Aurakzai agency area,” Singh said.

He accused Pakistan government of ignoring Sikhs and demanded that they be provided help by the ruling dispensation.

It may be mentioned that the Taliban destroyed houses of Sikhs and attacked them at various place of Buner, Swat, Aurakzai agency in North West Forntier Province (NWFP) and forced their exodus from the region.

Protests were held in Nanknagar, Tallab Tilloo, Poonch and Udhampur districts also.
