Shoe-Thrower Journo Jarnail Singh Attacked outside Court

Jarnail Singh, the Sikh journalist who threw his shoe at Union Home Minister P Chidambaram last April, has been attacked allegedly by supporters of senior Congress leader Sajjan Kumar outside a court in New Delhi, reported IANS.

“I was pushed and manhandled while I was leaving the court,” Singh was quoted as saying.

The court granted bail to Sajjan and nine others in two cases pertaining to their alleged role in 1984 anti-Sikh riots.

“The people who jostled me were supporters of Sajjan Kumar. One of them even threatened me with dire consequences,” Singh was quoted a saying.

Singh said that he went to the court to witness proceedings along with Neerpreet Kaur, he CBI witness in the case, report said.

“They (the assaulters) were trying to intimidate Nirpreet and other witnesses in the case also,” he was quoted as saying.

Report said that policemen present in the court complex intervened in the brawl and Singh later lodged a complaint against attackers at the Karkardooma court police post.

The incident took place after the court granted bail to the 10 accused, including Sajjan Kumar. All of them furnished a surety and personal bond of Rs.50,000 each.
