Shopian Case: Bandh in Srinagar Turns Violent, Three Injured

The bandh called by Majlis Mushawarat against the CBI report in Shopian case turned violent in Srinagar, said reports.

According to reports, a building caught fire during demonstration by the agitators. However, police said that the fire was an accident and not related to the bandh.

Residents of the area said that the fire was started by tear gas shell fired by police against protestors.

In the clashes that broke out between the police and protestors, three people were injured. The clashes took place in the Maisuma and Bohrikadal areas of Srinagar.

Meanwhile, the state government appealed to the protestors to wait for Jammu and Kashmir High Court’s verdict in the case.

“”I think we should wait for the final verdict of the court. What is wrong or right, let the court decide it. Whatever was the responsibility of the government, they have done it. People should wait for the final verdict. This is not the final verdict,” said J-K Law Minister Ali Mohammad Sagar.

The bandh call was given by the Shopian Majlis Mushawarat against the CBI report into the alleged rape-murder of the two women in May that had triggered massive protests in the valley.

There have been protests in the Valley after the CBI reports claimed that the death of the two women was accidental and gave a clean chit to four accused policemen.
