Shivendra Suspension Reduced to Two Matches

The International Hockey Federation (FIH) Appeals Committee on Tuesday reduced the three-match suspension of Indian striker Shivendra Singh to two matches.

The two match suspension will keep the Gwalior lad out of crucial ties against Group ‘B’ ties against Australia and Spain.

FIH tournament director, Ken Read, on Monday handed out the three match suspension for ‘deliberately’ hitting Pakistan’s Fareed Ahmed.

Upset over the action, Hockey India appealed against the suspension.

A slew of former Indian hockey stars have cast aspersions over the action against Shivendra, who described the contact with the Pakistani player as ‘accidental’.

India play Australia in a crucial tie on Tuesday evening.
