The 53-year old Bollywood star was earlier lodged in the ‘anda’ cell after he was brought to the Arthur Road Jail on May 16 following his surrender before the expiry of the Supreme Court-set deadline to serve his remaining sentence in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts case.
Dutt has to serve 42 more months in jail following his conviction in the 1993 case being upheld by the Supreme Court, which, however, reduced his sentence by one year (to five years from six) in March this year.
Dutt would be kept in a high security cell in Yeravada Jail, sources said.
Meeran Borwankar, Additional Director General (Prisons) confirmed Dutt’s shifting to Yeravada Jail but he did not give any details about the arrangements being made, if any, inside the prison.
The actor had surrendered before a designated TADA court as the Apex Court on May 14 refused to grant him more time to give himself up for undergoing the remainder of his three-and-a-half-year jail term.
Sanjay Dutt, who surrendered on May 16 before TADA court got most of his demands accepted by the judge, including home cooked food except smoking. It has been learnt that he spent a few sleepless nights and stayed hooked to religious books during his stay at Arthur Road Jail.
The actor had already spent 18 months in jail earlier and he needs to spend three and a half year more in prison to complete his jail term.
