Relief to ‘Gay’ AMU Professor, Suspension Stayed

The Allahabad High Court has stayed the order of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) suspending one of its professor in disciplinary action in the wake of reports of his involvement in homosexual relationship, reported PTI.

A division bench comprising Justices Sunil Ambawani and Kashi Nath Pandey passed the stay order on a writ petition moved by professor Srinivas Ramchandra Sirasi challenging the suspension order, said report.

Following reports his homosexual relationship with a rickshaw-puller, AMU vice-chancellor PK Abdul Azis on February 19 had suspended Sirasi, a reader in the Department of Modern Indian Languages, and asked him to vacate the university premises accusing him of ‘misconduct’.

In his plea, Sirasi contested charges levelled against him, said report.

While granting relief to the petitioner, the court asked the university authorities to file their counter-affidavits.
