Rajnath Meets Advani over Jaswant Singh’s Letter

In the wake of a spate of BJP leaders complaining publicly against leadership with Jaswant Singh being the last man, the party chief Rajnath Singh held a closed-door meeting with LK Advani on the issue.

Despite refusal of an immediate disciplinary against these leaders, including Jaswant Singh, by the top brass of the saffron party, Rajnath Singh is understood to have discussed the issue with Advani. Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi also met Advani.

The sources  said that Rajnath has started firefighting and may reprimand Sudheendra Kulkarni and Jaswant Singh.

After the controversy erupted on his letter to Advani, Jaswant Singh has been steering clear of the media. Sources close to Singh said that he does not want to create any further controversy.

Singh, in the BJP Core Group meeting on Wednesday, had moved a letter alleging lack of co-ordination among the top brass in decision-making and emphasizing a co-relation between performance and rewards.

While making these allegations, Singh was obviously hinting at chief poll strategist Arun Jaitley, who was appointed Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha soon after the electoral defeat of the BJP.

However, some senior leaders feel taking any action against Jaswant Singh at this juncture would create further problems in the party as some of its leaders have gone public with internal squabbles.

Jaitley and Advani’s close aide Sudheendra Kulkarni had written articles in newspapers and periodicals about the party after its electoral defeat.
