Rahul Slams UP Govt. for Delay in Development

AICC general secretary and Amethi parliamentarian Rahul Gandhi on Monday charged that the BSP state government in Uttar Pradesh was not cooperating in setting up of industries in the state, especially in the constituency represents.

Rahul accused the state government for delay in allotment of land to establish a Rs.3,000 crore paper mill which will benefit 25,000 people in the area. The 39 year old was speaking after inaugurating a unit of Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL).

Recounting the establishment of a number of factories, schools and an IIIT in Amethi, Rahul pointed out that the UPA had done a lot of work in the last five years.

Referring to the proposed paper mill in his constituency, he said the Centre will not only pay for the land but employment will also be provided to one person from each family whose land is acquired for the project.

The function was attended by Minister for Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises Vilasrao Deshmukh and Minister of State Arun Yadav.

Gandhi is on a three-day tour of Amethi.

Earlier in the day, the young parliamentarian inaugurated the Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus department at the Indira Gandhi Eye Hospital in Lucknow.

The hospital was established by the Rajiv Gandhi Charitable Trust (RGCT) last year.
