Two people died, three injured
MUMBAI (PTI): At the Chembur Vashi Naka in Mumbai on Friday,two people have died and 3 injured after a slab of the Monorail collapsed. All of the dead and injured were labourers at the site.
The construction began two years ago in Jan 2009. The monorail system is currently under construction in Mumbai.
A fire brigade official said the injured have been shifted to Rajawadi hospital.
“The support beam used in the construction of the bridge collapsed this evening, leaving four persons injured,” said the official.
The 19.54-km-long monorail corridor being constructed on the Chembur-Wadala-Jacob Circle stretch is slated to be the world’s second longest monorail section after Japan’s Osaka corridor which is 23.8-km-long.
The monorail tests are scheduled later this year.
