Punjab to Re-Assess Hike in Stamp Fee

Following protests by bar associations across the state, the Punjab government on Wednesday decided to re-assess a recent hike in judicial stamp fee, the decision was taken by Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal at a meeting with the representatives of Punjab & Haryana High Court various District Bar Associations.

Lawyers across the state observed a two-day strike to protest the steep hike in judicial stamp fee announced by the state government.

Agitating lawyers claimed that the escalation of fee will put an additional burden on the litigants.

Issuing necessary orders, Badal directed Financial Commissioner Revenue to re-examine the matter and said the increased rates will stand stalled till a final decision is reached on the matter.
