Govt. Initiates Campaign to Rid Reservoirs of Encroachers

Bhopal  —  Launching an intensive campaign to free land belonging government reservoirs of encroachment, the state government, in a circular dispatched by the revenue department, has instructed all collectors to start eviction proceedings and monitor progress of the operation on a monthly basis.

The collectors have been directed to conduct village-level surveys for the purpose.

Tehsildars/Naib Tehsildars have been instructed to collect lists of all reservoirs, their survey number, size and any encroachments thereon, from the local patwaris within a week.

Eviction cases would be filed on the basis of these lists.

Eviction action would also be initiated against those using these water bodies for personal interest, farming of water crops without requisite permissions and those encroaching government land on the periphery of the reservoir – blocking the flow of water into the reserve – and then using the dry bed of the tank for farming.

Under this campaign, all such encroachments will be removed from the lands of government reservoirs on priority basis. The action will be ensured under the provisions of section 248 of Madhya Pradesh Revenue Code. An encroacher may be fined and even sent to civil jail.

Similar instructions were earlier issued on January 27, 2010 by the Revenue Department for removal of encroachments from government lands.

The collectors have been instructed to submit action taken reports on the subject by April 13, 2010.
