President shifted and appointed governors on Friday
NEW DELHI: On Friday President Pratibha Patil appointed former Andhra Pradesh chief minister K Rosaiah, 78, and two Congress veterans as governor.
Governor of Jharkhand MOH Farook has been shifted to Kerala.
Rosaiah has been appointed to the Raj Bhavan in Chennai replacing Surjit Singh Barnala, who took over as Tamil Nadu Governor on June 20, 2006.
Uttar Pradesh former chief minister Ram Naresh Yadav has been appointed as the new governor of Madhya Pradesh. He succeeds Rameshwar Thakur.
A senior Congress leader Vakkom Purushothaman who is now 83 year old, from Kerala, heads to Mizoram to replace Lt General M M Lakhera.
Syed Ahmed, a former Maharashtra cabinet minister, will be the new governor of Jharkhand, replacing MOH Farook. Farook, 73, and former chief minister of Puducherry, has been appointed as the governor of Kerala for his remaining term.
“Their appointments will take effect from the dates they assume their respective charges,” the statement said.
The President has also given additional charge of Goa to Maharashtra governor K Sankaranarayanan, a Rashtrapati Bhavan statement said. Sankaranarayanan had assumed charge as Maharashtra governor on January 22, 2010.
Rosaiah, a prominent leader from Guntur, assumed charge as Andhra Pradesh chief minister on September 3, 2009, after the death of the then chief minister Y S Rajsekhara Reddy in a helicopter crash, and held the post till November 24, 2010.
On this occasion, Rosaiah told reporters that he would carry out his duties as the governor to the best of his ability. “I will give the best possible advise to the Tamil Nadu government and discharge my duties with clear distinction,” he said.
