Police Staff Suspended for Ashram Stampede; Mayawati Refuses Relief Funds

Two days after Pratapgarh stampede incident in which 65 people were killed, entire staff of Mangarh police station and an inspector in Kunda have been put under suspension, reported NDTV.

In the preliminary report, the Allahabad Commission has however clearly held the ashram authorities responsible of the incidence, report said.

According to that report, ashram authorities did not take proper control of the situation before and after the incidence, said report.

Police registered an FIR against unnamed people in the incident, said report.

On other hand, the Ashram claimed that it had given a letter to the district administration regarding the event in which huge crowd was anticipated but the state didn’t make adequate arrangements to control the crowd, report said.

About compensation to victims, Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayawati said earlier that the state government was cash-stripped and there was no money to offer to the families of dead and injured.

Mayawati put the onus of providing relief to the Centre, said report.
