PM to ‘Stay Away’ from Presidential Guest House: Reports
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who arrives in Washington tomorrow, will not stay at the historic Blair House – the Presidential guest house that hosts state guests, but at the Willard Intercontinental Hotel, which stands at a distance of three blocks from the White House, say media reports.
India had requested the decision, they added while attributing the information to “those familiar with the move.”
The decision was ostensibly taken in view of the inconvenience officials and other dignitaries calling on Prime Minister Singh could face due to the stringent security regulations, in place at the Blair House.
The Prime Minister on a 2005 visit stated at the Blair House, he was a state Guest of the then US President.
Prime Minister Singh’s US trip is the first state visit of the Obama Administration.
