PM Rules out Use of Army against Maoists

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has said that the government is determined not to succumb to the increasing threat of Maoists but at the same time ruled out any use of the army against the rebels.

In a press conference, following taking an aerial survey of flood-affected districts of Karnataka, Singh said, “It shows the measure of challenge we face. We will never succumb.”

“We are not talking of using armed forces. Police and paramilitary forces will be mobilized,” he said.

It may be mentioned that Maoists killed 17 policemen in Gadchiroli in Maharashtra on Thursday in the latest attack by them on police and police stations.
