PM Ready to Hold Consultations with All Parties on Women Bill: Pranab

Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee has said that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is prepared for holding consultations with all parties for a consensus on the Women’s Reservation Bill before it is introduced in the Lok Sabha, reported IANS.

“There is no harm in calling an all party meeting. The prime minister has pointed out that we can consult all parties (to arrive at a consensus) and for exploring ideas and possibilities to narrow down the differences,” Mukherjee, the leader of the house, was quoted as saying.

The made the statement while responding to a short discussions in the lower house over the government’s flagship bill which seeks to reserve 33 per cent seats for women in Lok Sabha and state legislatures.

Despite massive protests by SP, BSP, RJD and LJP, Rajya Sabha on Tuesday passed the historic bill and it is expected to be tabled in the Lok Sabha before March 16.

The legislation has led to frequent disruptions of the two houses of Parliament. On Thursday as well, both houses were adjourned amid uproar over the bill.
