PM Hosts Lunch for “Great Friend” Bush

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Friday hosted a lunch in honour of visiting former US President George Bush, described him as a “great friend of our country” and recalled the “important role he played in the fruition of the civil nuclear cooperation initiative.”

UPA chairperson president Sonia Gandhi and AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi attended the lunch along with several top leaders.

Singh also held a one-on-one meeting with Bush to discuss global issues, reported the Press Trust of India.

Speaking at a leadership conclave organized by the Hindustan Times, Singh hailed Bush for his role in the reveral of a US ban on civil nuclear trade with India.

“Former president George W. Bush is a great friend of our country,” Singh told the conclave, scheduled to be addressed by Bush on Saturday.

“We in India recognise the important role he played in the fruition of the civil nuclear cooperation initiative,” he said.
